14 May 1942

Post 400

I am currently updating stories I wrote about. Since 2015 I have learned so much that some posts have to be updated like the Pug Southerland story I will be updating.

This I did not know in 2015…

Richard Harmer was at the Naval Air Station in Alameda on May 14, 1942. He had ferried a F4F-4 from Naval Air Station Oceana to Alameda. On May 14, 1942, these photos were taken. USS Saratoga is having a refit.

View of the island of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3), taken at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Washington (USA), 14 May 1942. Note the newly installed Mark 37 gun directors. CXAM radar was installed on the forward end of the stack, SC-1 on the aft end. Note the battleship in the right background which is most probably USS Nevada (BB-38).
