Preserving the Past – January 20, 1944

Off at 0500 into a nice dusk morning illuminated by a half moon. Burgess gave me a nice intercept right off the bat and the AI* in #12 was working beautifully. Bob Holden** didn’t do so well on his as I dropped down to 400′ and he stayed up at 2000′. Burgess gave him a good intercept however. Those two tries were all we got – they chased Frank away from the scope and used it to work the day fighters. They still come first on this ship as perhaps they should. I don’t think they know what they have in these night fighters. To bed at 2130 – very tired.
